“Spiritual Worship, Spiritual Words”

John 4:23 “But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.
John 4:24 “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

The phrases “in spirit” and “in truth” are in the dative and translated as locative dative meaning the English preposition “in” precedes “spirit and truth”.  The locative shows position meaning “IN THE SPIRIT” and “IN THE TRUTH”.

If the dative were translated as the instrumental dative and it can be, the translation would read “by means of the spirit and by means of the truth”.

John 4:23 “But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father by means of the spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.
John 4:24 “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship by means of the spirit and truth.”

A paraphrased meaning here would be: Those that worship God must do so by means of a regenerated spirit, those born of God and by means of the truth, the written word of God, the Bible, John 14:23-27.

Bible search at the bottom of this page has been provided for your convenience. Type in or copy and paste John 14:23-27 or any other Bible chapter and verse. I counted 24 listed translations with the KJV, King James Version and the NAS, New American Standard being the most popular Bibles.
