“The Word Incarnate”
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.
God here is the Godhead, Elohiym, Colossians 2:9.
The creator of the heavens and the Host of Heaven, the planets and stars is the maker of the infrastructure of the earth in six days, Genesis 2:1.
When we get to the new testament we discover the agent of God for creation was âGod the Wordâ who is part of the Godhead, the fullness of Deity.
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2 He (the same KJV) was in the beginning with God.
John 1:3 All things came into being through Him, and without Him not even one thing came into being that has come into being.
The pronouns “He, Him” tells us “The Word” is a person and of masculine gender. God, the Word, made mankind in the image of God. We are copy’s of God. He made them both male and female, Genesis 5:1-2.
Because God is spirit, John 4:24, and not flesh, copy may refer to our spirit-soul essence. He, âthe Wordâ, who is not flesh became flesh, incarnate.
The context of John 1:14 tells us that He “the Word” was with God and in fact is God. I understand this to mean that He, “the Word”, is 100% God but is not all of God. I don’t know what “all of God” is but God is finite, maybe??
Isaiah 66:1 Thus says the LORD, “Heaven (3rd Heaven 2Cor 12:2) is My throne and the earth is My footstool. Where then is a house you could build for Me? And where is a place that I may rest?
Isaiah 66:2 “For My hand (hand is singular, âthe Wordâ John 1:3) made all these things, Thus all these things came into being,” declares
the LORD. “But to this one I will look; To the one who is humble, and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.
We don’t know how big God’s Heaven is but distance in our heaven which is outer space is measured in trillions of light years. There are at least 4 heavens mentioned in the Bible. Some scholars say there are 11 heavens in scripture. Heaven means space with volume, Genesis 1:8.
God is eternal and transcends the creation existing outside of space and time. We know God by His written word, the Bible and by the Holy Spirits who witnesses to us, Romans 8:16.
John 1:3 All things came into being through Him, and without Him not even one thing came into being that has come into being.
The context also tells us that He “the Word” is the agent, instrument, through which the Godhead created the heavens and the Host of heaven which are the stars and planets including earth, Genesis 1:1.
Psalms 33:6 By the Word of the LORD the heavens were made, And by the breath of His mouth all their host (stars, planets). Hebrews 11:3; 2nd Peter 3:5.
Psalms 33:9 For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.
He, God the Word made the infrastructure of planet earth for the habitation of man which included placing of the Sun and Moon, Genesis 1:16-17, making another heaven that encircled the Earth, dry land, all plant life, animal life and Man in 6 days resting on the 7th day.
Very likely the Earth was a frozen ice ball in space with no heat or light before the six days of reconstruction. “The Word” of God used existing material to add form and eliminate the void Genesis 1:2 for the sake of man, Genesis 2:1.
Hebrews 11:3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.
2Peter 3:5 For they willfully overlook and forget this [fact], that the heaven [came into] existence long ago by the word of God, and the earth (dry land, Genesis 1:9) also which was formed out of water and by means of water, (hydrology)
Hebrews 1:1 God, (the Word) who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Hebrews 1:2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the ages.
Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.
1Timothy 3:16 By common confession, great is the mystery of godliness: He who was revealed in the flesh, Was vindicated in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Proclaimed among the nations, Believed on in the world, Taken up in glory.
John 1:14 And “the Word” became flesh and tabernacled among us. And we beheld His glory, glory as of an only begotten from the Father, full of grace and of truth.
Hopefully this commentary shows that “The Word” is God and He is the Person sent by the Godhead to create the universe and make from the existing materials of the earth and the elements of our universe the infrastructure to support mankind.
The Word who is God has through the prophets including Jesus, Deuteronomy 18:18-19, Hebrews 1:1-2, has left us His written Word the Bible which is both history and prophecy.
The written word of God has the same authority as the spoken word for God is the same yesterday, today and forever. The Heavens and the earth will pass away but the word of God remains forever. Our obligation is to accurately understand what the word says and abide by it. We are not to add to or take away from God’s written Word the Bible.
