What’s in a name?

MOSES TO JESUS

AARON TO MELCHIZEDEK

Jesus
Who  is he
What is he
Why  is he

Today as other days we consume more of the Little Book with its sweetness and its bitterness as we walk with the Lord in Peace and Forgiveness, Revelation 10:9, 1John 1:9.

Those who seek wisdom from the God of the Bible and love their neighbor will receive blessing and honor and a life of Peace, 1John 5:1-5, Romans 2:9-10. Even in the disappointments of life we have the peace that is beyond comprehension by resting in Jesus who is our Sabbath, Hebrews chapter 4.

We all receive discipline as course corrections in our walk to perfection, Hebrews 12:7-8, Romans 8:28-30, Acts 13:48. God’s discipline is objective and not an expression of His wrath even though it can be severe. This is not an indictment to those who have believed but rather words of wisdom to those being made wise.

Adding to or taking away from the Bible is an act of self deception and to some it will lead to discipline even severe discipline as in the loss of Mortal Life, 1Timothy 1:18-20, 1Corinthians 5:1-5 and for others it will lead to the Lake of Fire, Revelation 21:8 with the sad thing being their sins are paid for.

“WHAT’S IN A NAME”

We have all heard the phrase HE OR SHE HAS MADE A NAME FOR THEMSELVES meaning they came from obscurity and became prominent people in some way such as in Business, Medicine or Stardom.  Dr Ben Carson came from the Ghettos of Detroit Michigan and became a world famous and very respected brain, neurosurgeon making a NAME for himself.

Matthew chapter 28:

19–“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, BAPTIZING them in the NAME of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

BAPTIZING comes from the Greek word meaning to submerse and this context is not the ritual of water baptism BUT means to submerse disciples who are already WATER Baptized in the teachings, NAMES of:

  1. The teachings, NAME of God the Father, John 5:43 which is the Old Testament, Genesis through Malachi,

  2. The teachings, NAME of the Son, Jesus Christ which is the four Gospels Matthew through John and the Revelation,

  3. The Teachings, NAME of the Holy Spirit which is the book of Acts through Jude.

20–teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Other Baptisms:

There is also a Baptism of the Holy Spirit meaning we are submersed in the Holy Spirit, Luke 3:16, Acts 2:1-4 and a Baptism of Fire, Matthew 13:49-50 meaning the Lake of Fire where Evil will be submersed post, after the final judgment.

Acts chapter 2

Water Baptism:

38–And Peter said to them, “REPENT, and let each of you be BAPTIZED in the NAME OF JESUS CHRIST for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Baptism in this context means to be WATER BAPTIZED BY SUBMERSION and is in the NAME OF THE SON, JESUS CHRIST meaning who He was and is and what He did, HIS REPUTATION which is a matter of recorded history. The Old Testament tells us what He would be and the New Testament confirms what He is. The New Testament is in the Old Testament Hid and the Old Testament is in the New Testament revealed.

Isaiah chapter 28:

10–For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little.

Matthew chapter 7:

Being persistent

8–For everyone who keeps asking will receive, and the person who keeps searching will find, and the person who keeps knocking will have the door opened.

Romans chapter 5:

19–For as through the one man’s disobedience (Adam) the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One (man, Jesus) the many will be MADE righteous (righteousness is the gift of God, Romans 3:22, Ephesians 2:8).

MADE here is a process that takes awhile and begins with regeneration and is something that God initiates and completes by conforming us to the image of His Son Jesus Christ, Romans 8:28-30, Acts 13:48.

“WHAT’S IN A NAME”

In American culture we use the names of a person to identify a specific person and gender and species and pets, we even name inanimate things.

If we know the person who is named we immediately recall things about that person because we keep a mental file on friends and associates and celebrities.

We could write a book solely based on names of famous people and the names of people that you know personally.

Grace Kelly was a beautiful and articulate and generous movie actress who married Prince Rainier of Monaco making her Princess Grace Kelly.

What does the name Adolph Hitler bring to mind? He was a cruel despot that ruled in Germany from 1931 to 1945 and died by committing suicide at the end of WW11. He caused World Wide Havoc and caused the murder and death of millions of people and great loss of Gold assets and other property.

Jesus said to pray to God our Father in his name.  His name is WHO HE WAS AND IS AND WHAT HE ACCOMPLISHED ON EARTH THROUGH AND BEYOND CALVARY. The name Jesus is a reminder of what we know about Him. He is giving us authority to pray based upon his accomplishments, His reputation which is His name.

Philippians chapter 2:

9–Therefore also God highly exalted Him, AND bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,

10–that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE SHOULD BOW, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth.

I have several neighbors who are named Jesus also called Jessie which is a very common name in the Mexican culture.  Although we are good friends and neighbors I have never bowed the knee to them because Jesus in this context is the BODY OF GOD who is the humanity of Jesus Christ of verse 11 that is part of Him and will be His eternal body with the permanent scars of Calvary as a result of  His Earthly ministry.

All mankind and the Entire Host of Heaven will eventually Bow the Knee before Jesus Christ with many doing it at the GREAT WHITE THRONE judgment.

SO; praying in the name of Jesus means praying by the merits of Jesus as a result of His Earthly Ministry which Old Testament believers could not do.

11–and that every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
The NAME OF THE FATHER, John 5:43 is the OLD TESTAMENT. The Old Testament contains the merits and works that “Messiah the Christ” would exhibit when he arrived as foretold by the Prophets of Israel.  Jesus is the only one exhibiting these qualifications of more than 300 specific prophecies which is why he is and no one else is the Christ of God, the “Messiah of God”, the “Only begotten of God”, “The Prophet of God”, “The Prince of Peace”, “The Savior of the World”, “The Creator and Maker of the Universe”, “The Word of God in the Flesh”, “The Son of Man”, “Jehovah, Yahweh in the flesh, The Lord”.  These are all names!  Jesus Christ is both Deity and humanity in one person.

James chapter 4:

1–What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members?
2–You lust and do not have; so you commit murder (1John 3:15). You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask.

These people are saved but living as the world lives.  This is verbal chastisement, 2Timothy 4:2-4.  While love may be a feeling it is measured by what you do, Galatians 6:7-10.
3–You ask, and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, in order that you may spend on your lusts.
4–You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is (no mercy, devil take the hind most, Galatians 5:14-26) hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world (world system) makes himself an enemy of God,
5–Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: “He jealously desires the Spirit which He (God) HAS MADE to dwell in us”?
6–But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “GOD IS OPPOSED TO THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.”

7–Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
8–Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded, 1Timothy 2:8.

1Peter chapter 3:

3–(Wives) Your adornment must not be merely external–braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses;
4–but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.
7–You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since she is a woman; and show her honor as a FELLOW HEIR of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.

Successfully based prayer!

James chapter 5:

13–Is anyone of you suffering? He should keep on praying. Is anyone cheerful?  He should keep reciting psalms (praise in song, odes, psalm’s, with musical instruments or a cappella).
14–Is anyone of you sick? He should call for the elders of the church, and they should pray for him and anoint him with oil.  Elders here mature men walking with the Lord and preferably skilled in medical practice.  Anoint here should be to rub in oil, medicate.  See also, Luke 10:33-35 in the name of the Lord.
The book of Luke is part of the NAME OF THE LORD, THE GOSPELS which is recorded for our understanding and OBEDIENCE TO THE FAITH.
15–And the prayer offered in faith (inside “The Faith”) will save
(save from mortal death) the person who is sick. The Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed any sins, (Greek= he has sinned) he will be forgiven, Matthew 9:1-7.
The context here indicates that sickness is due to sinful living.  Repentance here is implied by calling the Elders of the Church and confession of sin to one another.  We all sin.  We keep the scars.
16–Therefore, make it your habit to confess your sins to one another and to pray for one another, so that you may be healed.  The prayer of a righteous person (a person declared righteous by God, saved) is powerful and effective.

Be careful who you confess sins to, use discernment, be wise, 1Timothy 5:13.
17–Elijah was a man just like us, and he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and it did not rain on the ground for three years and six months.
18–Then he prayed again, and heaven sent rain, and the ground
produced its crops.
